Did anyone else see a recent announcement about the plans for a new cutting-edge performing arts center at Brown University? Please see the following link: https://news.brown.edu/articles/2017/02/pac.
Thanks for sharing Carol — and kudos to Brown for showing such leadership and innovation in the arts — I hope other leading universities will follow suit.
All the best,
As an alumni of Brown, I do have my issues with them but one thing they never disappoint on is their ability to deliver far and away innovative and amazing new ways to view and understand liberal education. While this is just traditional "arts' per se, a few years ago Brown was the first Ivy to roll out an entrepreneur in residence program, classes on understanding triple and double bottom line impacts, and the B Corporation, even more amazing when you think that the University itself (besides the med school (which is itself a continuation of the undergrad school) and the MFA program, is only an undergrad institution. The defining aspect for me for my time there and when I go return is how Brown can muddle the traditional lines between disciplines, showing the clear demarcations between math and science and art and humanities really no longer apply anymore. In today's global world, everyone must work together in an entrepreneurial and creative mindset.
Great observations Samantha!
Your comments brought to mind my 11-year-old twins, whose thinking is so much more fluid than my own when it comes to inter-mingling math, sciences, humanities and the arts.
